I’ve had an issue in Firefox on my Mac. I remembered fixing it somehow in the past, but after my upgrade to Mac OS X Leopard I did a fresh install of Firefox. Bam! The issue returned. I run Adblock Plus and was having constant trouble with embedded flash videos. It was annoying but not too much of a hassle. I’d scroll it near the top of the screen and it would pop into view. CNN’s videos started failing to display several months ago and in order to view them, I’d have to disable Adblock Plus and reload the page.

I’ve hunted around for an answer on Adblock Support sites, but never could get it resolved. The searches I entered into Google or the support sites just produced nothing like what I was having as a problem. Until tonight…

I usually entered a short search query of something like “Adblock Plus blank flash”. On a lark, I entered the really long and specific Google search “firefox adblock plus mac os x blanked out videos top of page”. It worked! I got someone else’s blog that I must credit for the answer this time around:

The answer: Under Adblock Plus, turn off the option to “Show tabs on Flash and Java”
